Entiat Trail

For the last four days in June I hit the hiking trail with James, Clover and some a fourth person, Mike. Can you guess which one is not like the others?

The above picture is an alpine lake called Larch Lake. There are actually two larch lakes but we only made it to the lower one because of all the snow. Yes, lots of snow at the tops of the mountains. This was one of the prettiest places we went. The only catch is the hike up was long, hot and steep. The hike down as almost as bad.
We took a day hike up another mountain without the benefit of a trail and I've decided that having a trail is a good thing. Even if the view was great. The area we hiked in burned in the last couple of years and wasn't much fun to be in. If you look closely at this picture the brown areas on the other side of the valley show forest that has been burned. There is a river running down the valley and it looks like it limited the fire a bit. The campsite next to the river was unburned very lovely but we only stayed one night as the mosquitoes were unbearable. We did hard hike into the campsite the first day. Then the hike without a trail the next day and moved to a new campsite. And on the third day we took the long hike up to Larch Lake. And on day four we hiked out back to the car. My legs were tired for days after I got home.
I'm glad I went though. All in all it was good to get out of the office sometimes. I want to do it again soon. But without the mosquitoes and the burn area. For more days too. Because being outside is fun. Can't you tell?
