The Rescuers

With all the snow chaos this year the snowplow operators may have gotten a little reckless. Things were scooped up and transported to the main-snow-dumping site, an empty field near the tennis courts. Many things have melted out of the snow there: gloves, beer cans, soccer balls. But something worthwhile and interesting melted out of the snow this spring. I didn't notice until they started to grow. Some sad gardener out there is cursing the city for displacing his favorite irises.
They looked so sad and it was obvious that they did not belong. So, I called Ian and we made a plan to give these plants a new, loving home. There are not gallant pictures of us carefully placing them in bags because of the mosquitoes. A cloud descended on us when we bent down to grab the plants. I had long pants and sleeves but Ian was in shorts and a t-shirt. He ran away first but came back when he realized I was determined to get all the plants. So we put them in bags as fast as we could and then ran off with the loot together. I wonder if we looked guilty. We took them home and planted them. I'm not sure if they'll bloom this year but they should next year.

We have something that looks like that in our yard! Like everything else my Dad swears it's a weed but now I'm hopeful that it could be irises. :)

I am never letting your Dad near my garden. He might actually be a garden terror! I hope you have irises, they're one of my favorites.

Ah, we have those in our yard too! I KNEW they weren't weeds, but I am wondering what they will flower into. Do you know what color they end up being, Rissa?
