Tusk scratched through his post some months ago. Ian wanted to purchase a new one but I was convinced that it was fixable. So when we were at the store that has everything but will remain unnamed yesterday, we walked past the sisal rope by accident and remembered to take some home. That in itself is a feat. An even greater feat was following through with this project to the end. The original wrapping was held in place with stapes which we saved for refurbishing. They weren't sharpened so we fitted them back into the original holes. That part was a bit tricky but everything else was great.
The only trick was to keep the rope tight while wrapping. This was easily accomplished by holding it tight then wacking it into place with a hammer. It doesn't have to be a rock hammer, that's just what was handy. Totally worth the time (.5 hrs, max) and the cost ($2.50). Despite what you see in the pictures I was an active participant. I didn't just make my spouse do it. The rope we used was a little thinner than the original. That made it
easier to use the staples but changed the profile of the scratching post
a bit. But they seem happy.
