For some reason last weekend was excellent. Not because any big thing happened but a series of small things went well.
Now that the weather has changed I feel more interested in my kitchen. I've been reading food blogs and wanting to cook again. So I made bread, quiche, apple crisp, pancakes, backyard chicken and my first ever attempt at yogurt. There are so many different yogurt versions online that I kind of mashed them together and went for it. Keeping the temperature just right was, by far, the most challenging part. We put it in water in the crock pot. All day we turned the pot on then off. Then a while later we would turn it on and off again. It set up, not as firm as I would like, but we haven't died from eating it.
I also took the nephews to their first ever roller derby bout. It was extra special because Uncle Nate was in town to ref. Wes and Timmy are very different when they watch sports. Wes just likes to watch quietly but Timmy wants to get up and yell. So the first half was fairly quiet while I sat next to Wes and the second half was rowdy when I sat with Timmy. Timmy decided that Flyby was his absolute most favorite skater ever and waved fanatically whenever she looked our way. He got her autograph after the bout and decided that next time he's going to get her phone number. How else will he get to spend time with her?
This weekend was a lot of Timmy time. I went to Bellingham with Allie at the beginning of the month and spent the weekend of the 15th with Wes so it was Timmy's turn. I went shoe shopping with the other kids and Timmy insisted that we do the same. I have never seen a kid get so excited about shoes. Our shoe aesthetics are very different, though. He was hoping for the Captain America shoes but I wanted something nicer (sabbath shoes, he informed me). We managed to find a compromise. Then we went to the coffee shop. I chatted with Aunt Lorraine while Timmy read 'Harry Potter' and sipped his beverage. I have the nicest nephews.
The chickens also got a hip new timed light set up. I'm trying to fool them into thinking that summer goes on and on. I put one light in the coop. Then one light in the run. I'm adding a second light in the run today. It's so dark at six in the morning.
There were some less great weekend moments. Most notably my sweet little girl rabbits said 'no' to the very friendly boy rabbits I introduced them to. Maybe next week?
