Spring dreaming

I plan posts that are about one subject but, because I am lazy, I wait then post all the different things at once. So it ends up being more a review of my week and less about one subject or idea. I'm sorry about this. This isn't how I want it to be.

So subject #1. I bought a new pot last weekend. I know it is an expensive pot but, oh man, did we get a talking to. Before we were allowed to leave the store with our purchase we got a long explanation about care and expectations. It felt like we were bringing home a small child. And after all of this we were instructed to go online and research the new addition to our family further. It's a pot! Seriously lady, how complex can it be?

I think it settled in quite nicely. I hope to bake many a poor chicken with it in the future.

James got serious about playing some frisbee golf this weekend and dragged us out there. I feel a little embarrassed that this is the first time I've been to the course here. It was pretty good. There were even signs to tell us where to go.

We only played the first 9 because of the kids but I hear the back 9 are the best. It is a little smooshed together, though. We had to be really careful about not playing across other holes and hitting people. Wes some natural talent and I have dreams of creating a disc golf super star.

More progress has been made on the chicken coop. Hopefully it will be ready for chickens this spring. We secured a roost and added nesting boxes. This is all good but in the process I realized that Ian and I are not carpenters. The boxes will work but are hideous! We have no idea what we are doing and it is kind of obvious when you look at the result.

So to all the handy people in my life, save me. Please. I still need to build the run

Despite our lack of skills we try and try. We built the second raised bed and I dream of filling it with yummy plants. I still need to put them in the ground and fill them with dirt, though.

Some one made a snarky comment about the size of my backyard when I moved in but I disagree. Our little 4x4 beds are dwarfed by the yard. I thought they would help fill it up but no. I'll have to plant more things. This shouldn't be a problem.

This week spring moved on step closer.

I got my seeds in the mail. Not everything I wanted was there. Four packets won't be coming and I feel more disappointed than I expected. I can just pick them up from the store in the spring but the seed racks aren't a safe place for me. I think I'm just going to come home with tomatoes but that is rarely the case. More things call my name and before I know it I've dropped a wad of cash on flowers and beets. It was hard enough to limit myself with a catalog but with the merchandise in front of me my gardening brain goes a little crazy. Best to stay away. That said I am planning on going to she gardening show in Spokane this year.

But all this dreaming of spring will have to be put aside. I leave for vacation this week and won't be back until March. Then spring dreaming begins in earnest.
